Sunday, March 28, 2010 at The Park Tavern (corner of Monroe Ave. & 10th St.) in Midtown.
Pamoja Penda is a green music and arts festival that will benefit the Ugandan American Partnership Organization’s (UAPO) work with refugee communities in Northern Uganda, and help to raise awareness for grassroots organizations in Africa and in Atlanta. Pamoja Penda's goal is to connect communities in Atlanta to Africa by bringing family and friends together in an eco-friendly celebration of arts, music and culture. All of the proceeds from the festival will benefit UAPO. The day will be filled with activities including seven bands, a barefoot soccer tournament organized by Grassroot Soccer, documentary films, a sustainable arts and crafts market and more.

Expect earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, and a cappella numbers, as well as accompaniment by an exciting 4-piece band and percussion section. Add to this, energetic dancing and vibrant, colorful costumes and the mix is awesome. This young dynamic choir performs both traditional and contemporary music, adding its own unique feel and interpretation to both.
The choir performs in 6 of South Africa's 11 official languages. This magnificent choir is styled with a contemporary feel, leaves all who hear it stunned with emotion. It is small wonder that they are charting a meteoric rise to international fame.
Their 2003 concert in Cape Town, under the auspices of former President Nelson Mandela, witnessed Soweto Gospel Choir in action alongside other musical greats like Bono, Queen, Anastacia, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Cliff, and the Eurythmics. Wherever Soweto Gospel Choir has performed, whether in Europe, Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom, or the United States, they have wowed audiences.
